The 5800 Sovran™ brings a new level of luxury to light.
“The 5800 Sovran™ is the most elegant yacht Tiara Yachts has ever launched,” comments Nick Bischoff, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “With its abundance of light, thoughtfully integrated ‘sky galley’ and application of Volvo Penta IPS® technology, the 5800 Sovran also sets a new standard for performance and livability in a 58-foot cruising yacht.”

Description: The MV Calliope is a Gulf Commander 50 built in 1976 by Jenkin’s Marine, Victoria, BC. We’ve owned her for six plus years making two roundtrip voyages to Sitka, Alaska, numerous cruises throughout the San Juan and Gulf Islands, the Broughtons and the West Coast of Vancouver Island. She’s an exceptionally comfortable boat to cruise or liveaboard. Calliope is a strong, stable vessel, essential components for safe and enjoyable voyages. We reluctantly originally offered her for sale at $289,000 US. Today,January 31,2008 we’ve reduced the price to $259,900 or best offer. This is a great opportunity to own a great boat at a very good price! We began, immediately after purchasing Calliope, the process of upgrading her systems. An extensive refit was done in 2003 including new engines, new shafts, rewiring, new hydraulics, new electronics, new throttles/shifting controls, new bilge pumps, and much more (see specifications). Calliope’s interior was completely remodeled making an open and spacious yacht. The helm area in the pilot house was redesigned allowing maximum visibility and simplified for ease in handling. A step up aft, the extensively refurbished wheelhouse (pilothouse) is followed by a second head compartment, remodeled galley, dinette and salon within the main cabin. Below decks, the domestic fresh water tanks and work space are positioned ahead of the engine room. The engine room followed by the fuel tank/storage compartment with a freezer. Aft of that is a stern lazarette that houses the generator. An auxiliary helm or flybridge above the pilothouse and aft is the boat/sun deck positioned atop the main cabin. The builder and original owner was an extremely talented and innovative craftsman and woodworker. Everything on the boat was purpose built for offshore passagemaking and live-aboard comfort. From the pilothouse table with it’s reversible top (transforming it into a chart table) to the fold-up settee backs (to increase bunk size), to the lift out countertop deck plate key storage tray, the innovations are practical and well executed. Bookshelves and storage are abundant. There is a true "sea going" u-shaped galley with propane range and custom stainless countertops and built in knife rack. The pilothouse has a second steering station and offers 360-degree visibility. New safety glass was recently installed. The salon is both cozy and spacious with a new Dickinson Newport diesel bulkhead mounted heater for year-around cruising. The overhead lighting has been upgraded to red and white dome lighting. Gimbaled kerosene lamps offer energy efficient auxiliary lighting. The upholstery was recently replaced and complements the interior. All ports in the cabin open for ventilation. The V-berth features fold-up leeboards, good storage and an escape ladder built in to the cabin door. Separate top-loading freezer and refrigerator are powered by shore power or engine driven compressors cooling holding plates. The ketch rig offers split-rig versatility for easy sail handling at sea. All three sails were made by Dale Waagmeester of Banks Sails in Portland, OR and are in excellent condition. The masts and rigging are oversized for safety. All four line-control winches are self tailing Lewmar. An 8′ Aquapro RIB is stored in custom davits on the stern. The cockpit has oversized scuppers that exit through the transom. The cockpit offers secure seating and easy access into and around the pilothouse to the forward sections of the deck. The current owners of 12 years are reluctantly selling the boat due to health issues. The boat was recently bottom painted and buffed. Maintenance and upgrades are ongoing including new toilet, engine water pump, bulkhead heater, deck paint, etc. If you’re looking for an offshore capable liveaboard, this is it.
