I don't know how to swim but I love the open water. Is it possible?

How old are you? Chances are that if you are over 18 your state does not require a license for boat operation. However if you have no experience it would be a good idea to take a boating safety course and keep your life jacket on at all times.
sure
SURE! people who don’t know how to drive cars get licenses all the time, so why not boat owners?
Of course it’s possible. That’s why there are life preservers on boats and ships! Good luck (and I hope you don’t HAVE to swim). Be safe.
Just a quik question… what staes do you need boat licences in?? I Iive in florida and have boating for years no licence needed here…
You are not obliged to learn to swim, but if you are on open water or even in port, situations may occur whereby you will end up in the water.. so go through the simple practical lessons for basic swimming.. being able to keep yourself afloat is a minimum.
yes, a good idea for you would be to keep a vest on at all times, go down to the marine store, they have vest’s that look like regular clothing, I can swim like a fish, and NEVER take mine off as long as I’m on the boat.
Sure, you just can’t get a life guard license. People get pilot’s licenses all the time and I never met anyone that could fly. I don’t think it’s a requirement to be able to walk to get a drivers license either.
No. That is why the Coast Guard requires all occupants of any small vessel to wear (or at least have easy access to) a life jacket. They don’t care if you’re Mark Spitz, bad weather or cold water will quickly overwhelm even the strongest swimmer. Also, consider this – Joshua Slocum, the first man to circumnavigate the globe solo, couldn’t swim either.
Ya. In Missouri, to operate a watercraft you have to be 14 and have a certificaiton card, and photo id. You don’t have to know how to swim. But it might be a good idea. Not knowing how to swim shouldn’t stop you from getting a boaters license! Hope this helped!
