I’m a little confused about the top off. Wouldn’t non-saltwater RO dilute the saltwater in your display tank?

The RO water that is topping off is replacing pure freshwater that evaporates out of the tank. Salt stays in the tank as the water evaporates so salinity stays the same.

hey limpits should i get 4x54w t5s with individual reflectors or 6x54w t5s with one big reflector.

individual reflectors are better than one big one but more light is better than less so I say go with more light.

HI are u using strong flow for your hard corals in your 90 gallon reef tank? does the calcium reactor helps to stop white spots from reef fish?

I am running strong flow on my sps tank but I do not use a calcium reactor. I have an updated tank video in the works.

I’m setting up my canopy much like you have. I’ll be using 2 x 250 watt mh and 2 x T5. What T5′s would you recommend for supplemental lighting as I don’t want to run my mh’s all the time. I didn’t know whether to get 2 50-50s or get 1 atintic and 1 daylight bulb. The dimension of my tank is 48″(l) 13″ (w) and 18″(d) It’s a standard 55 gallon with a 30 gallon sump. Which brand should I buy?

I would run strictly actinics for the supplemental lighting. I like both Geissmann and ATI bulbs.

For the Fans inside the canopy, It is better to have one suck air into the inside of the canopy and the other one blow air out of the canopy? or had both of the Fans blow air out of the canopy?

  • LimpitsReef

Neither, it is best to suck the cool air from the outside of the canopy to the inside and have some venting holes in the canopy.
This also will make the fans last longer as they will not be sucking salt laden air.

HEY!! havent seen any vids for a while!! Anywho, Im setting up a 40 breeder, diy stand and canopy, I was thinking of putting the 250mogul 20K bulb and reflector about 12-14 inches from the water, to help spread the lighting, and keep the heat down. And the sump im having made, would need a ato, I dont have money for an expensive controller, so do you have any diy ideas?? thanks hope everything is grand!

    FallensReef,
You should place them for maximum flow without creating a sandstorm.

    haivang1,
I no longer run the halides, i switched over to T5′s about 2 years ago. When I did run the halides I used a Sunlight Supply magnetic ballast.

in one of your videos you said you did not gravel clean to tanks and you just let your clean up crews take care of the job ive read that clean up crews do not clean fish waste. how do u manage that? or is this wrong and they do clean fish waste?
    Thankyou

    @hj6100,
A critter that consumes detritus is what you want to look for.
